Well-Researched Copy

I collaborated with a small team of copywriters to research and write descriptions of locations across the American North East to contribute to a client's database of the region

Regional Descriptions

I was tasked with writing brief descriptions of various regions and individual towns in New England to contribute to an online database accessible to interested parties in the area. Collaborating with a small team of copywriters under a strict deadline, I focused on the Lake Champlain region of Vermont. Each description required careful research into the region or town, the consultation of multiple online sources detailing census data, local attractions, and real estate values, and the creativity to compile that research into engaging descriptions of rural Vermont life.

Champlain Valley Region (Regional Overview)

The Champlain Valley region in northwestern Vermont sports a diversity of vibrant communities, world-class attractions, and natural areas. Chief among the must-see sites of the valley is Lake Champlain itself. Ringed on all sides by beautiful forests, attractive beaches, and lakeside communities, Lake Champlain is a destination spot for many from New England and from all along the eastern seaboard. In Spring and Summer, people flock to the lake to swim and sail, while in Fall, the area's beautiful foliage provides some of the best seasonal landscape viewing in the whole of the US. Burlington is the largest community in the valley, and boasts some of the best dining and nightlife in the state. Fort Ticonderoga, on the southern tip of the lake, was the site of one of the most momentous battles in the Revolutionary War. On the western edge of the valley, the Long Trail offers seasoned hikers a serious challenge, while amateur outdoorsmen can enjoy themselves on any number of the region's shorter trails.

Williston, VT (Town)

Williston was established in 1763, located near present-day Lake Iroquois and surrounded by a fertile and beautiful landscape. To this day, Williston is blessed with an abundance of land suited to hunting, fishing, and hiking. An early resident of the town, and perhaps its most famous, was Thomas Chittenden, the first governor of Vermont and the man who gave his name to the county where Williston is located. Originally a mostly agricultural town whose residents supported themselves through subsistence farming, Williston is now the largest retail center in the suburbs of Burlington. Some $430 million was spent by shoppers in the area at last count in 2007, and that figure has only grown since. Easy access to Burlington International Airport and the rest of the state via I-89, which bisects the town, make it an attractive location for many modern businesses, from retail outlets to technology companies. That's not to say that Williston today has completely foregone the economic benefits of its agricultural legacy; dairy farming remains an important driver of the local economy.

Shelburne, VT (Town)

Named for an illustrious 18th century English prime minister, Shelburne is the wealthiest community in the county. Median household income is nearly twice the national average, and the value of a detached home in the town is well above what one would find in the rest of the state. The town itself is located just seven miles south of the Burlington city center and lies on the shores of Lake Champlain, its municipal limits encompassing the entirety of the picturesque Shelburne Bay. Residents enjoy such local attractions as the Kwiniaska championship golf course, Shelburne Farms, and the Shelburne Museum, which has on display a stunning example of an early 20th century steamboat, the Ticonderoga. Excellent eateries, shopping destinations, and a vibrant nightlife are to be found in the center of town, while those seeking a more rustic experience won't have far to travel to the wider area's many state parks and natural areas.
